In 2014, after the first round of the presidential elections, Victor Ponta, the PSD candidate, won in no less than 2,265 cities, towns and parishes in the country, with Klaus Iohannis, the liberal candidate, only succeeding in 707. Five years later, Klaus Iohannis, who managed in 2014 to triumph in the final round and became president, won in more than 1,800 communities, with Viorica Dăncilă (PSD) winning in almost 1,100 cities, towns and parishes throughout the country. The political color change in the country is also easy to see if the results from the current presidential elections are compared with those of the parliamentary elections of 2016, when the PSD lead by Liviu Dragnea won in over 2,300 municipalities and cities.
