Newspapers on Tuesday read about President Basescu's declarations that politicians pressure him to intervene in the judicial system for them. Elsewhere in the news, independent candidate Sorin Oprescu would win most votes in elections for Bucharest mayor, a local survey reads. Last but not least, one newspaper reads about the Social Democratic strategy against electoral opponents.

Romania's President Traian Basescu declared in a Realitatea TV talk show late last night that he was oftentimes pressured by local politicians to intervene in the judicial system on their behalf, Cotidianul reads in its online edition. He said that at times, he was even blackmailed just to be forced to intervene.

He declared that he held evidence in this sense. However, he said that even though by refusing to help them he refused to cooperate with the system, he does not compromise. Nonetheless, the President declared that current PM Tariceanu and former Social Democrat Ion Iliescu were the main politicians who wanted Basescu suspended a year ago.

Moreover, Basescu talked about the role of the Constitutional Court. He declared that this institution was controlled by those who appointed its members. Plus, he did not miss the opportunity to talk about the upcoming June local elections.

Basescu mainly attacked Independent Sorin Oprescu but refrained from attacking Liberal Ludovic Orban. Naturally, he pointed out the competitive advantage of his party's candidate, Vasile Blaga. About Oprescu, he said that while deputy mayor, he did not do anything as he was arriving at the City Hall after public servants were leaving home.

Elsewhere in the news, Romania libera reads that independent Oprescu and Democrat Liberal Vasile Blaga will enter the second round of voting in local elections for Bucharest mayor, according to an Insomar survey, ordered by Romanian news television Realitatea TV.

The survey, conducted on May 13-16 points out that Oprescu would receive 39% of the cast votes while Blaga would collect 24%. They would be closely followed by Liberal Ludovic Orban with 12% and Social Democrat Cristian Diaconescu with 11%.

More in the news, Evenimentul Zilei reads about an internal Social Democratic strategy for Arges, West Romania. The document puts forward several immoral strategies to take against the party's rival candidate, current County Council President Constantin Ostaficiuc.

The strategy puts forward several disadvantages of the rival candidate. Thus, the first attack should trigger Ostaficiuc's lack of results as County Council President. Moreover, the document reads that the PSD candidate should put forward rumors that the candidate bought the seat in political dealings with leaders in Bucharest. What is more, PSD strategists should publish an article reading that Ostaficiuc collaborated with the Communist secret police.

According to the document, the strategy reveals that even though the information is not correct, it is a sensitive issue and will soon be taken up by central newspapers. Thus, the public opinion will remember this when they will cast the vote. The newspaper reads that these strategies are already applied.
