Romania's prime minister Victor Ponta said in a press conference on Thursday that European Council president Herman Van Rompuy's proposal to reduce the money allocated for Europe's common agricultural policy and cohesion funds in the EU 2014-2020 budget was unacceptable. He said Romania may go as far as to use its veto right in the case.

Ponta announced in the conference that President Traian Basescu was the one to represent Romania at the European Council. And he said his ministers and government aides will provide all the necessary information for the head of state prior to the negotiations in Brussels.

The statement comes as Ponta and Basescu were involved in a battle this spring over who should represent Romania at the European Council. Ponta was the one who went there anyway.
