Russia is ready to guarantee Moldova's territorial integrity if Moldavian leaders refuse to enter NATO military structures and Russia has agreed to sign documents attesting this position, Vladimir Voronin, president of the Republic of Moldova, has said in an interview for the Russian daily Kommersant.

He referred to an alleged Russian disposition to acknowledge the breakaway region of Transdniester as part of the Moldova Republic should Chisinau drop any intention to join NATO.

Voronin said that relations between the two countries were very good and he was optimistic regarding the status of Transniester and the future strategy adopted by Russia. Moreover, he added that there were no secret negotiations with Moscow but all events stand to support Moldova's intentions.
