In a report obtained by the press last week, the European Commission criticized Bulgaria roughly, declareing that the high corruption and organized crime level weakened the administrative and judicial system in the system.

In another document, the Commission's anti-fraud unit, OLAF accused Bulgarian authorities of possible frauds in pre-accession European funds. It seems that local authorities were unable to manage these frauds.

The to reports might be reshuffled before being officially presented this week. However, the Commission needs be authoritative and urge Bulgarian authorities to take up the fight against corruption more seriously.

Bulgaria will survive the shock if European funds will be blocked but the development of its infrastructure will definitely be affected. However, the political impact seems more important. This humiliation could lead to early elections as citizens are angry for the lack of registered results.
