Spain has over 2.5 million unemployed, 11% of the foreigners receiving unemployment compensations being Romanians. According to the Radio Romania reporter in Madrid, the data of the Spanish Labor Ministry indicate that over 100,000 people lost their jobs in August, thus bringing the unemployment rate to the highest level in the past 10 years.

Romanians in Spain are affected by the economic crisis the country goes through, the main areas where jobs are lost being the construction works and services. Some 21,000 Romanians are currently unemployed. Authorities say they prepare to improve conditions for the constructions sector, to boost businesses back to profit.
