Italian prosecutors demanded that Romanian ethnic Gypsy Nicolae Romulus Mailat be condemned to life imprisonment for killing an Italian citizen, Giovanna Reggiani in October 2007. A preliminary sentence will be pronounced later today.

The case raised up important controversies in Italy and lead to the approval of a decree that allowed Italian authorities to expel communitarian citizens, on grounds of public safety. In order to prove that Mailat is guilty of murdering, aggressing and robbing Giovanna Reggiani, Maria Bice Barborini emphasized the declaration of Emilia Neamtu who declared she saw Mailat while moving the corpse of his victim, Romanian television news Realitatea TV informs.

Mailat never admitted his guilt.
