Fiat officials confirmed on Tuesday that negotiations have been taking place for putting up a partnership with Chrysler. The company vice president, John Elkann, confirmed the rumors recently published by the media, saying that Fiat may acquire an important stock at Chrysler, in exchange for their more ecological production technology.

"It's no secret that we have been discussing. We do this for quite some time now", said Elkann, according to the Italian ANSA news agency.

Automotive News recently published an article about Fiat's intention to acquire a participation in Chrysler, which would thus gain access to the Italian engines and transmissions technology. Fiat would also find a new tool in selling its Fiat 500 and Alfa Romeo in the US.
