Ukrainian newspapers lament on the decision of the International Court of Justice and read that Ukraine lost the trial against Romania quoting an official press release of the Ukrainian government. Thus, most newspapers read about the decision of the Court to deny the status of island to the Serpent's Island.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian press quoting an official press release of the Foreign Affairs ministry reads that the Court acknowledged the Serpent's Island as an island and established the delimitation line in favor of the Ukrainian part, Proua reads.
Ukraine is satisfied with the decision, deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Kupchishin declared. He added that it is very important that the relations between Romania and Ukraine are cleared of any dispute and that the decision of the court is mandatory for all parties involved. In his opinion, the Court recognized the Serpent's Island as an island with territorial waters of 12 marine miles.
