Eastern European states should have less influence than other countries on the continent because they are not as intelligent as Northern countries, Danish MEP Mogens Camre declared in an interview for Radio France Internationale.

Leader of the European Nations Union group in the European Parliament, Camre added that countries like Romania or Bulgaria have more votes than Denmark, Sweden or Finland and that Northern countries are more intelligent then the others.

Western and Northern European countries are more democratic, transparent and healthy, Camre said. He expressed his concern regarding the future EU expansion, considered a threat to the cultural identity and security of the EU.

Romanian MEP Renate Weber declared, as an answer to Camre's declarations that she does not believe that Scandinavians are more intelligent than others and qualified his declarations as being childish.
