German Parliamentarians approved a resolution on Thursday emphasizing the lack of judicial reform and fight against corruption in Romania and thus urging the EU to block funds for Romania, Deutsche Welle informed.

Romanian and Bulgarian reforms are perceived at the level of the EU as generally not convincing and leading to no results. The winter European Commission report on judicial reforms and corruption concluded that these reforms are non-existent in Romania.

Germany is the biggest EU financial contributor at the time and these debates were triggered by the imminent European and national elections in Germany. Germans associate Romania and Bulgaria with corruption in which European funds - mostly German contributions are fraud. Thus, the resolution of the German Parliament must be read within the German electoral program.
