Pork meat consumption is safe in Romania, according to Prime Minister Emil Boc. The statement comes on Thursday, after the Ministry of Health confirmed the country’s first three cases of swine flu.

"The situation is under control. We are using all the standard EU procedures communicated by the World Health Organisations and we hope to keep the situation stays in hand. Pork meat can be consumed; there are no related issues in the country. We are taking precaution measures when importing pork, monitor and isolate the suspect cases. It is also important that each Romanian respects basic hygiene rules to prevent a possible spread", Boc said, quoted by Romanian news agency Mediafax.

Romania has been officially listed, since yesterday, next to the other 46 countries where the presence of H1N1 virus has been confirmed, according to Romanian minister of Health Ion Bazac.
