Great Britain has a bigger proportion of poor pensioners than Romania, British daily Daily Mail reads, quoting Eurostat statistics. According to EU data, the level of poverty among British pensioners is ranked 4 in the EU. The British are poorer than those in Estonia, Latvia or Cyprus, the data reveals.

In the last ten years, pensioners in Great Britain lived in harsher conditions, as sums destined for the poor dropped steadily and currently represent a sum lower than what single mothers receive. The Eurostat data were interpreted by Age Concern and Help the Aged humanitarian associations.

Compared to Great Britain, only 19% of Romanian pensioners are below the poverty level, the British tabloid reads. At the other end of the spectrum, Czech elderly register high scores: only 5% of the elder are extremely poor.
