A credible and independent investigation should be set up to determine the exact role of the Romanian authorities in the CIA jails scandal, Human Rights Watch London director Tom Porteous declared for RFI. His declaration comes after The New York Times wrote about a building in central Bucharest was used as a jail for terrorists.

Porteous declared that there are enough credible data available to suggest that CIA did have illegal jails in Romania. He added that a credible and independent investigation is needed to determine the role played by Romanian authorities.

He added that this issue also involves former US President Bush as his administration was well aware of the CIA detention places outside the US.
