Romania gained four places in a global competitiveness top: compared to last year, our country is classed on 63 of 133 countries in the global competitiveness report for 2009-2010, set up by the World Economic Forum, the Group for Applied Economics (GEA), the Forum's Romanian partner informs. Even though the improvement of the rank did not change a lot in the points gained, this year three EU member countries proved less competitive: Latvia, Greece and Bulgaria.

GEA declared that the report is based on statistical data for 2008 and on a manager's survey conducted in 2009. Nonetheless, Romania is ranked last in the EU in what concerns its infrastructure, health and basic education.

According to GEA, Romania's points this year do not differ too much from the previous year - 4.11 compared to 4.1. Even so, Romania managed to exceed countries like Greece, Portugal or Italy. One of the best score were received for the financial market complexity.

The best score in the top was gained at the size of the market category but Romania lost significant points when in comes to efficiency of the market goods or labour market efficiency.
