Italian police arrested 40 people in an operation against a specialized human trafficking network involving tens of Romanian prostitutes. The organization had branches in several cities across Italy. Shocking aspects were found: the virginity of minor Romanian girls was sold on the internet.

Clients would attend an online auction to buy the right to have sex with the minors offered by the pimps. Police officers discovered that the prices at the auction amounted to 6000 euro at times. The investigation started in 2007 when police officers identified four Romanian prostitutes that declared they were being exploited by the criminal organization and were willing to collaborate with the police.
