Sixteen Romanians were evacuated from Libya aboard two planes - one sent by Ukraine and one by Poland - on Thursday, according to Romanian news agency Mediafax, quoting Interfax Ukraine. It reads that the Romanian citizens left the African country together with Ukrainian, Russian, Slovak, Polish and British citizens.

An Il-76 plane flying from Tripoli with 163 people on board, including 125 Ukrainians and five Russians, landed in Kiev on Wednesday night. One Romanian was aboard.

Other 15 Romanians arrived in Poland aboard a Polish plane on Wednesday night. 15 Poles and 20 British citizens were also on board.

The Romanian Government had announced on Wednesday that a 200-seat Tarom plane would be sent to Malta and that it reserved 900,000 lei to cover transportation costs for Romanians willing to return from Libya.
