The mayor of a town on the outskirts of Bucharest, Jilava, best known for hosting a major penitentiary, comes first in the race for a new term in office, despite being under arrest. Mayor Adrian Mladin, charged with corruption, is the candidate with the most votes after vote counting in 185 of a total of 215 sections in the town.

Adrian Mladin was placed under arrest following charges by the National Anti-Corruption Department with claiming 500,000 euro and receiving 50,000 euro to fix documents in a real estate affair.
