The National Veterinarian Agency (ANSVSA) confirmed on Wednesday the presence of the bird flu virus in areas near the Murighiol village in the Danube Delta, after several birds were recently found dead. 56 hens and 16 ducks in the household where the virus was found were sacrificed and a first disinfection process took place.

Authorities put up a protection area and installed disinfection filters at the entrance in the village. Officials confirmed that the virus is a H5N1-type, the same type that can infect humans.

Romania dealt with another bird flu outbreak in 2005, when 53 contaminated centers were found, yet there were no human victims.
