The Romanian Academic Society (SAR) think tank puts forward a pessimistic report for 2008 Romania: the organization warns that the negative tendencies of 2007 have every chance of being multiplied in the upcoming year. Moreover, the think tank forecasts that Brussels officials could open up discussions to activate the safeguarding clause on Romanian Justice if attacks on anti-graft prosecutors are stopped.

On the financial side, experts argue that Romania's country rating might drop considerably while the structural deficits are expected to increase.

The SAR report also portrays the political fight between the President and the PM that has every chance to undermine the international progress Romania made over the past several years.

For 2007, experts consider that the quality of governance lowered as some 130 emergency ordinances of the government were issued, public budgets increased but were poorly managed and offered arbitrarily, on political grounds only.
