A decision in the case of Romanian Senate speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu, who has been judged for false testimony in a criminal case, is expected to be announced on May 22. Anti-graft (DNA) prosecutors called for a 3 year prison sentence for Tariceanu, who appeared before the High Court of Justice one last time on Tuesday. Tariceanu calls the accusations a "mystification".

Calin Popescu Tariceanu, who's leads the Democratic Liberal party (ALDE), a minor member of the governing coalition, and been serving as Senate speaker since the general elections in late 2016, was indicted in July 2016. He was eyed by anti-graft prosecutors for his role in an illegal retrocession of land near Bucharest.

He has been accused for making untruthful statements under oath and concealed information about key circumstances of that case, thus impeding the criminal pursuit of suspects.
