The controversial car tax is modified again, the Government suggesting a formula that takes into account more the pollution level of each vehicle, Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu declared in a TV interview. The decision comes as a result of negotiations with environment non-governmental organizations.

"The suggestion is to put up a tax that reflects in a simple formula the CO2 emissions. The one who pollute more, pay more", said Tariceanu. The new tax may come into force in July, after negotiations with European Commission representatives.

"I prefer to have Nokia, Ford, Renault and many others investing in Romania and offering jobs, than to protect second-hand car dealers", said the prime minister.
