Israeli authorities have decided to eliminate travel visas for Romanian citizens starting with March 1, Romanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ilie Banica announced on Thursday. However, Romanians will need visas if they travel for other purposes like business, work or studies.

The decision is applied starting March 1, 2008 and was approved by the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset on January 9. The measure was taken primarily due to the fact that Romania is now a EU member and EU members do not need a visa to visit Israel.
