Romanian actor Ovidiu Iuliu Moldovan, 66, known for his many roles in Romanian movies and plays over the past decades, died of cancer in a Bucharest hospital on Wednesday night. Over the past several years, the actor chose to give up playing in films and focused solely on theatre plays.

The last play in which he could be seen acting was "Celalalt Cioran" (The Other Cioran, after the name of Romanian philosopher Emil Cioran).

In 2004, he received the UNITER prize dedicated to Romanian acting performances for his career achievements.
