The body of a Romanian military killed in Afghanistan on Thursday, Ionut Cosmin Sandu, was repatriated on Sunday. His body was transported back to the country by a military plane, local televisions announce.

Sandu was promoted post mortem and an official military and religion ceremony was organized. He was decorated by President Traian Basescu with the Knight Star. The Romanian military will be buried in Galati, South East Romania on Thursday.

Ionut Cosmin Sandu and his colleague Silviu Atanasiu were in a Humvee patrolling the Zabul province, north of Qalat when their vehicle rolled over a makeshift bomb. Sandu died while his colleague was injured.

Sandu, aged 29 was married with two kids while Atanasiu, aged 26 is single. Both were in their second mission in Afghanistan.
