Romania president Traian Basescu was involved in a minor accident afternoon, in downtown Bucharest, while driving his official car by himself. The president was not injured, announced the Police and paid the appropriate fine. According to the police officers at the station, the alcohol test was negative. Despite the fact that it was a minor accident, several journalists accused the president of irresponsible behavior, since he chose to drive himself, without specialized escorts, only days before the NATO summit.

The head of the Opposition, Social-Democrat Mircea Geoana, suffered a similar accident, also on Sunday afternoon.
