Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that, after President Basescu's visit in Russia in 2005 relations between the two countries evolved well on the economic plan, amounting to 5 billion dollars. The Russian leader argued that diplomatic relations between the two countries have a history of 130 years.
In a press conference, after the meeting, Putin thanked President Basescu for his hospitality while the Romanian President said he is honored to receive him. The billateral meeting between the two took place after the NATO - Russia Council.
The meeting was set last night, during the working dinner at the Hilton Hotel where all high NATO officials were present. Officials argue that it was during the dinner that Vladimir Putin invited his Romanian counterpart to visit Russia again.
