The new Romania Foreign Minister, career diplomat Lazar Comanescu, was sworn into office on Tuesday, at he presidential palace. "Your nomination as Foreign Minster is the result of a rapidly obtained consensus of all the institutions involved in this decision", mentioned president Traian Basescu. "The foreign policy priorities are unchanged since 2005. We have to capitalize in our favor the conclusions reached during the NATO summit, we still have to capitalize the European Union member status and we need to put up a consular activity able to meet Romania's needs", said the president.

"Your experience allows us to hope that you will run a successful mandate", Basescu added. Lazar Comanescu declared that he will return to Brussels on Wednesday and will begin to effectively run the Foreign Ministry starting on Monday.

Lazar Comanescu dodged all questions referring to the resigned minister, Adrian Cioroianu, or the Crulic case (the innocent Romanian dead in a Polish prison), which led to the resignation, but only postponed all answers until he will be able to document the case himself.
