Small farmers will probably give up soliciting EU funds because of the dense paperwork and tideous process, Agricultural Payment Agency (APIA) director Dan Gherghelas declared for HotNews.ro. He added that in the following years, only average and high farmers will apply for EU funds like it happened in other EU countries.

Two weeks before the final deadline, only 700,000 farmers applied for subventions as compared to 1,240,000 las year. Gherghelas said that this year was marked by a massive concentration of land, small farmers sold out or associated with bigger ones.

Moreover, he declared that the workload for submitting requests is a lot simpler for solicitors. However, the situation is still confuse in what concerns the 2008 payments. Over 60 million euro reached the pockets of some 320,000 farmers but the situation is more complex when it comes to high surface owners.
