A Romanian military was killed and other three were injured on Friday morning, around 05:00h, in Afghanistan, a press release of the Defense Ministry informs. The troops of the 300 Infantry battalion were patrolling the A1 highway (Qalat - Kabul) when the four armored vehicles were attacked with light weapons and grenade launchers. Two transporters were hit, some 50 kilometers far from Qalat.

Although the fast-reaction troops of the battalion arrived to the scene, 1st class soldier Claudiu Marius Covrig was killed. The rest of the soldiers received medical attention on the spot and continued the mission, securing the area.

Covrig is the second Romanian soldier killed this year and the fifth since the Romanian troops were first deployed.
