The special commission put up by the Health Ministry decided that the 11-year girl who got pregnant after being raped by her 19-year old uncle may have an abortion, although the pregnancy reached its 20th week. Specialists say that the abortion is legal in case it involved a sexually abused child. Even more, it was considered that the pregnancy may affect the girl's mental health. Same specialists mentioned that the fetus has only 1% chances to survive, in case an abortion doesn't take place.

The girl's parents were almost on their road to England, where abortion is legal up to 24 weeks. In Romania, the legal age for a fetus to be aborted is 14 weeks, after then, the abortion is legal only if the fetus is found with severe malformations or the mother's life is endangered.
