Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu announced on Wednesday that the minimum average salary will not be increased despite the recent trade union protests. The main reason is that this move will cause inflation to raise which would affect most citizens.

Tariceanu declared that he promised an increase of the average salary on July 1 only if certain conditions are complied with, such as a GDP increase and an increase in labor productivity. Thus, Tariceanu declared that the economic reality clearly showed that an increase would lead to instability.

When asked about the recent price rises Tariceanu declared that the government would put forward a series of measures to protect the population. He announced that the main form of social protection was a well paid job. Moreover, he added that the heating aid for the poor would be increased by 12.5%.
