The Romanian national currency, leu (RON), reached its highest level this year - 3.5434 RON per euro, according to the exchange rate posted by the Romanian Central Bank. RON won 1.4% compared to Tuesday, when the same Central Bank posted a 3.5934 RON per Euro rate.

RON had on Wednesday is second largest sudden appreciation this year, after a 1.6% variation on April 11.

"All buyers on Tuesday became sellers on Wednesday, supporting the RON appreciation. Apart from the regional trend, the evolution depends also on other arguments, such as the high inflation expectation and the high interest rates on the market", said Narcis Noaghea, dealer for the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), quoted by NewsIn.

RON also won 1.2% in front of the US Dollar, from 2.2861 to 2,2585 RON per dollar.
