The sole status of Romania's patrimony, both build and national, makes it an emergency, Romanian president Traian Basescu declared on Tuesday when presenting the priority measures to be taken for the public patrimony, historical and natural sites.

Basescu declared that it is quite easy to discover the lack of conservation for historical and natural sites. The presidential commission for the patrimony, natural and historical sites in Romania, set up at the President's initiative came up with a set of 12 measures to protect sites from further degradation.

Basescu underlined that historical centers in cities across Romania need to be protected, at any costs. He added that these sites offer cities and regions a valuable identity. Basescu declared that the patrimony urges for the people's respect and offers potential for sustainable growth.
