Romania president Traian Basescu met on Friday the parties involved in the financial system, namely the commercial banks and the Romanian Central Bank (BNR). After the meeting, the head of state declared that the recession expected in the global economy and a possible economic crisis of the EU states may affect the Romanian economy in case the economic policies will not be prudent, a BNR press release informs. The president invited the commercial banks, the Central Bank and the Government to agree on a partnership designed to limit the effects of the crisis on Romania and to ensure that the requirements for the transition to the European currency are met.

At the same time, Basescu underlined the importance of a responsible attitude from the leaders of the financial institutions and a prudent attitude in protecting the financial resources of companies and population.
