The Government will issue next week an emergency ordinance changing another ordinance issued by the previous government late last year which increased car taxes threefold, according to Environment minister Nicolae Nemirschi. He said the changes come following a notification in this regard that the government received from the European Commission.

According to Nemirschi, the way the tax is computed according to the ordinance adopted late last year would remain unchanged, but coefficients will be lower, so that the tax would not be three-times higher as it used to be.

Unless the ordinance expected next week fails to provide another formula to compute the tax and it would only bring its value down, the Government hopes that by summer it would set up another formula for all polluters and submit it to parliamentary vote, so that the current car pollution tax be annulled.
