Romania's agricultural production is stuck at its 1965 rates, when compared to the European market, Romanian Agriculture minister Ilie Sarbu declared. He added that agricultural research must be supported by the government, as a promoter of progress. Nonetheless, Sarbu explained that Romanian peasants have less advantages than their European counterparts in terms of state subventions and facilities.

In times of economic crisis, the agricultural sector remains the only chance to pull the economy, Sarbu explained. He expressed his confidence that, with a good management, the agricultural sector of the country will not disappoint.
