Renowned businessman and owner of one of the biggest football clubs in Bucharest, Steaua, Gigi Becali is allowed to leave Bucharest and the country, Bucharest Court judges ruled on Friday. The judges underlined that his interdiction to leave the country was weaved so that Becali can exercise his European Parliamentarian mandate.

Becali's lawyer, Mariana Stefan explained for local television Realitatea TV that in this case, Becali has also rights but also obligations - namely to be present at Strasbourg. Becali obtained a European Parliamentary mandate in the June 7, 2009 European elections. He stood on the lists on behalf of an extremist party, Greater Romania Party.

Becali was held in temporary custody, accused for depraving the liberty of some thieves who stole his car. He was released from arrest on condition that he would not leave the capital city, nor Ilfov county.
