Hungarian politicians should respect Romania's national holidays, Romanian President Traian Basescu declared at the ceremony marking Romania's National Flag Day at Miercurea Ciuc, central Romania. He underlined that he will try to attend all Hungarian holidays celebrated by the Hungarian community in Romania, out of respect.

He declared that Hungarian politicians attempt to convince their representees that the ceremony is a demostration of force organized by the Romanians. In fact, Basescu explained, it is a national day in which Romanians salute their national flag with pride, Mediafax informed.

The only representatives of the Hungarian minority present at Miercurea Ciuc were Covasna's County Council President Tamas Sandor and deputy president of the County Council from Harghita, Sofalvi Laszlo. Miercurea Ciuc's city hall was not represented at the ceremony.
