The label of products containing genetically modified ingredients should contain a warning in this regard, a new bill to be submitted by the Conservative Party (PC) in the Parliament says, a PC spokesman announced on Thursday. A yellow circle covering no less than 30% of the label would have to contain the text warning that the product contains GM ingredients, according to the proposal, he said.

PC spokesman Bogdan Ciuca compared the yellow circle to the red circle applied on buildings risking collapse in case of an earthquake. He said the bill is supported by several NGOs including Greenpeace.

A similar initiative failed in the Romanian Parliament by a 2-vote margin three years ago. But Ciuca said this time around "all parliamentary groups said they agreed with the initiative".

PC is allied with the Social Democrats (PSD), who form the governing coalition with the Democratic Liberals (PD-L).
