Romania's Superior Council of Magistracy decided to name Lidia Barbulescu as President of the Higher Court of Justice after Nicolae Popa resigned. Lidia Barbulescu, former President of the Superior Council of Magistracy was, until now, vice-president of the Higher Court of Justice.

President Basescu signed on Monday the decree of the resignation of Nicolae Popa. Popa, aged 70 on September 1 was compelled to retire.
