CFR Calatori, the Romanian Railways service for travelling, has sacked 780 employees. Another 111 people working for the Railway Engines Repairs Commercial Society have made it to the redundancy list, as well as 73 from Voiaj CFR (voyage), 41 from Gevaro - a CFR division responsible with managing sleeping cars, berths and restaurant carriages.

The job cuts at CFR began last month. Nearly 4,800 working for CFR Marfa (the goods transport department) have been sent home. Next, another 2,500 from CFR Infrastructure will be left without a work place.

The ex-CFR staff will receive two net average incomes, unemployment benefits and a make-up income for 12 to 15 months. The Romanian transport Ministry aims to sack around 10,000 CFR workers in 2010
