GPs in Romania have stopped writing subsidised and free prescription, sick leaves and referrals starting today, April 1, because they have not signed a standard contract with the Health Insurance House, the president of the GPs' Patronage Doina Mihaila announced, Romanian news agency Agerpres informs.

"We will examine patients, treat them, but with basic prescriptions. We have neither a standard contract, nor guidelines. If the guidelines have been set, they have been set without consulting us", GP's Patronage president said.

The standard contract is due to be enforced on April 1, but is not been published in the Monitorul Oficial (official gazette) and the norms doctors should start using are still unknown.
