One in four of the 149 employees at the Communications Ministry in Romania would be subject to redundancies this year, Communications minister Gabriel Sandu announced on Friday. He said evaluations for collective redundancies affecting 800 of the 1,800 employees at National Radio-communications Company Radiocom have also started, with a similar evaluation due to be launched at Romanian Mail.

Sadu also proposed the merger of two IT and communications research institutes, which would be accompanied by layoffs affecting 25% of their employees.

An analysis regarding the reorganisation and restructuring of the Romanian Mail, a company with over 35,000 employees, would also take place.

Sandu said that during his term in office neither Radiocom, nor the Romanian Mail would be privatised.
