Representatives of the Romanian Embassy to Moscow were invited by the Russian Foreign Affairs ministry for talks related to Romania's decision to declare a Russian diplomat persona non grata in Romania, Interfax informs. According to the press agency, Romanian diplomats refused to offer any details regarding the meeting.

The Russian Foreign Affairs ministry qualified Romania's gesture as unfriendly. Russian officials criticized the decision to expel a Russian diplomat from Romania and warned that it reserves the right to take measures.

A press release of the Russian Foreign Affairs ministry, quoted by RIA Novosti reads that the Romanian diplomat was expelled because the secret services found money, materials and devices specific to the espionage activities while the Russian diplomat did nothing to justify such a decision.

We warned Bucharest regarding such actions but reason did not triumph, the press release reads.
