President Traian Basescu decided, on Friday evening, to interdict the police to escort him in official delegations and ensure his protection. The decision was taken following the illegal protest organized by Police unions on Friday. The information was confirmed on Saturday, by the Presidency's spokesperson, Valeriu Turcan.

The Romanian Police was informed of the President's decision that the national police will not take part in the protection of the Presidency, the police's spokesperson Raluca Saucan declared.

She said that the police escorted official delegations but did not make any other comments. Over 8000 protesters reached Cotroceni, the president's headquarters on Friday, where they through their caps in the palace's courtyard.

Some even screamed: "Basescu, go after Ceausescu!". Moreover, protesters threw bottles and candles.
