We are still captive to the accession logic and we still act as if we wish to join the EU, Romanian Foreign Affairs minister Teodor Baconschi declared in a press conference regarding Romania's objectives for the next 20 years. Baconschi said that we have an inferiority complex to the West which devines us and stalls our foreign policy.

Romania is uncapable of using structural funds even if it contributes to the EU budget and fails to capture these resources to accelerate Romania's economic recovery, Baconschi declared. He criticized the current situation of the country, the political and administrative environment and talked as a politician rather than a diplomat.

The main priorities of the country are: reforming the state, starting with the Constitution, reinventing our national identity, the role of public institutions and reqrite the political contract between citizens and the state.

Baconschi admits that Romania has a bad image abroad and believes the press is directly responsible for this, because it exagerrates and cultivates panick, as if it is the end of the world. Romania will hold EU Presidency in 2019 for the first time it joined the EU and it will be a test for the Romanian administration and a moment for more plans, he underlined.
