Bucharest and Moscow authorities signed an intent memorandum, a document which sees a tehnical and economic analysis on the opportunity of South Stream to transit Romania. The announcement wasmade by Gazprom President Alexei Miller after a visit to Romania. Miller met with Economy minister Ion Ariton and PM Emil Boc.

Miller declared that he will also visit Sofia, to discuss about how the project can be set up. Miller said that his aim is to optimize the project, which is why he is considering Romania also.

If the analysis will be positive, an intergovernmental agreement between Romania and Russia could be signed, if both parties agree, Miller said. According to him, the next meeting will take place in Moscow, very soon.
