President Basescu promised to the IMF officials that he will not promulgate the laws on 5% VAT for food products and no taxes for pensions below 2,000 lei, governmental sources declared for Mediafax, the Romanian news agency.

The government does not seek solutions to compensate revenues to cover the gap by the law on the 5% VAT for food products or by the law on no taxes for pensions below 2,000 lei. The IMF representatives were assured by the President that he will not promulgate the laws and will resend them in the Parliament, sources declared.

The Chamber of Deputies adopted, last Tuesday, two draft laws on 5% VAT for food products and no taxes for pensions below 2,000 lei, by mistake.
