Holcim Romania, one of the biggest cement companies, announced on Tuesday that on November 16, unidentified persons accessed the CO2 certificates held by the company and stollen certificates worth 15 million euro.

A million CO2 certificates were transferred in an account in Liechtenstein. Another 600,000 certificates were transferred to a company in Italy that holds CO2 certificates in Italy and Great Brtiain.

It seems that a part of these certificates were afterwards transferred to other accounts in France, Great Britain and the Czech Republic.

Holcim Romania announced authorities and urged them to block the system, recover CO2 certificates and secure data. The company also urged authorities to start a penal investigation. An international investigation was also launched.

CO2 certificates are registered electronically and cannot leave the systems of the authority regulating them. Holcim urged for the EC's support to urge European authorities to follow and stop an eventual sell of the stollen certificates.
